Students Council 2011/12
Our student council is made up of representatives from each year group. The Student Council is an integral part of the school community. Its roles are many. The council represents the students’ views. It contributes to developing school policy. It is a vital channel of communication and has a important part to play in dealing with bullying. It also fund-raises twice a year.
The Student Council of 2011 - 2012 is comprised of the following: Lea Shaughnessy, Micheal O’Dwyer, Hazel Nally, Simon Finnerty, Megan McDermott, Eric Nash, Orla O’Flynn, Rachael McCormack, Patrick Burke, Aoife Smyth and Aidan Finnerty.
The students represent each year group and meet every other Monday at tutor time, as well as at other times when necessary. One of their objectives in the first half of this year was to fundraise for a local organisation. On 21st December, a Non-Uniform Day in aid of the local Hospice in Renmore will take place. Thanks to the generous participation of students who are always delighted to wear casual gear, the school hopes to raise over €1,000 for the Hospice. Student Council members provide teas and coffees and a friendly welcoming face at parent –teacher meetings and also play a very active part in the annual Open Night which is held in November.
On 18th November, in celebrating Presentation Day, Aoife and Aidan, our two Leaving Cert Student Council members, honouring the school’s rich history, placed a wreath in the Presentation Sisters’ graveyard following mass.
The Student Council, we believe, is an important part of the Calasanctius School Community. Sometimes its work is very obvious and sometimes it quietly and sensitively supports student needs. Its members play an extremely positive role in representing student concerns and the council is an integral link with the school management and staff.
